Quintana, TX, US Posted On: 03/27/2024 Employment Type: Full Time Job Class: The position of Instrument Reliability Engineer reports directly to the Lead Instrumentation & Controls Engineer.
This role is accountable for ensuring that all Freeport LNG Instrumentation functions safely, efficiently and reliably, with the objective of meeting business goals for production while minimizing unscheduled equipment down time.
The complexity and number of instruments in both the Liquefaction (LQF) and Pretreatment (PTF) Facilities require a high level of technical expertise to monitor and evaluate the health of the instruments and valves.
This role will proactively offer solutions to avoid reliability and availability issues and meet production requirements.
The role will provide integrity oversight in the areas of condition-based monitoring, preventive maintenance and trouble shooting.
In addition, the Instrument Reliability Engineer will be required to interface with the Maintenance and Operations teams to assist with troubleshooting as well as providing technical support.
Location/Travel Information This position is based at the Quintana LQF Terminal with frequent travel to off-site locations as required.
This position requires the incumbent to hold a valid, unexpired driver license at all times in order to perform the essential functions of the job.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Condition Based Monitoring and Instrument Equipment Health KPI's: SIS instruments and valves Temperature, pressure flow instruments Responsible for supporting Maintenance on: PM's and proper PM task development Trouble shooting Repairs and Modifications Building detail SOW for execution of such Root cause failure (RCA) analysis Analysis of instrument retrofits consisting of Business Case, Technical Assessment, Risk Assessment, and Cost Estimate.
Support Process Trip Investigation.
Initiate instrument Management of Change/ minor brownfield projects where necessary.
Also, provide SME oversight and assist in completion of project deliverables such as Design Basis, instrument and electrical specifications, data sheets, loop drawings, and Hazardous Area Classification changes.
Plan for instrument equipment obsolescence Bad Actor identificaiton and resolution.
Reliability Analytics tools development and use, (Weibull, growth plot, monte simulations) Instrumentation reliability KPI development and maintanace Instrumentation RCM implementation Instrumentation Medium use and management Develop and maintain a system for testing and monitoring SIS instruments Keep abreast of applicable codes and standards.
Participate in industry conferences/seminars and new technology presentations.
Other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Engineering Manager.
Essential Functions Responsible for conducting Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for complex Instrumentation and controls related Incidents.
Provide oversight, monitor set-up and ensure Reliability Centered Maintenance is in place for all types of instruments.
Assist facility personnel with operational and maintenance problems relating to instrumentation and valves and provide technical support where necessary.
Ensure compliance with all local, state and federal codes and regulations.
Accountable for ensuring records and documentation are maintained for regulatory compliance associated with instruments and valves.
Education, Certification, and Experience Minimum Education Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program Minimum Experience Required: 5-10+ years direct experience with applying engineering reliability principals and analytical tools related to instrumentation.
Preferred Education: MS in Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program Preferred Experience: 10+ years’ experience with design, maintenance and reliability of instruments, valves, analyzers, DCS control systems, PLCs and SCAD systems.
Operating plant maintenance and support experience.
Competencies Proficient with reliability analytical tools and techniques such as Weibull and Growth Plots.
Software Proficient with Maintenance Execution Systems (MES) such as SAP.
Excellent planning and organizational skills and be able to evaluate and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure alignment with plant goals while acting with a sense of urgency (when required).
Ability to effectively collaborate and work with all levels of the organization including operations, technical, plant management, contractors, vendors.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills Proficiency in all standard MS Office products, and SAP Plant Maintenance or similar computer based maintenance system Ability to work safely, efficiently and effective with minimal guidance and direction.
Strong written/verbal technical communication skill.
Self-starter/motivated Excellent troubleshooting/analytical skills Familiarity with cyber security Must have the ability to drive a motor vehicle in order to perform the duties required at all FLNG locations.
Work Environment This position primarily operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers/fax, filing cabinets, etc.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites.
The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
