The Mundy Companies, a leader in the industrial maintenance, services, and construction fields, is currently hiring the following for a long-term position in the Freeport, Texas area: HSE Manager The Mundy Companies HSE Manager supports multiple (business units).
This position is accountable for the planning and management of site business strategies in the areas of Health, Safety, Environmental and Risk Management.
The HSE Manager will lead and drive a proactive approach to health and safety by sustaining or enhancing local practices, processes, tools, and training programs needed to ensure total effectiveness of the HSE program.
The role will also actively engage and partner with Client Managers, Contract Managements, and Site Management to create and sustain a safety culture that continuously strives to eliminate all incidents and injuries.
Responsibilities Safety Program / Policy & Procedure • Conduct safety meetings (toolbox talks) with employees, managers and subcontractors.
• Interact with Client managers, contract management, site management and workers in order to identify and correct unsafe conditions or work practices through creative and collaborative problem solving.
• Observe new operational site tasks as they are implemented to provide support and ensure safe practices.
• Assist in formulating safety guidelines and procedures, evaluate and influence effective implementation in the field, including site specific health and safety plans.
• Evaluate safety performance through regular field walks, inspections and audits related to EHS and OSHA standards, as well as Industrial Hygiene monitoring.
• Provide corrective action and coaching for unsafe conditions and work practices observed, and recognition of safe acts, behaviors and conditions, leading and influencing the safety culture.
• Plan for safety by assisting field management in the preparation of project safety roadmaps, job risk assessments, and job hazard analyses.
• Assist or prepare site safety plans for large projects and evaluate safety task plans.
• Provide feedback on opportunities for improvement or positive recognition.
• Identify safety training needs, develop course content, and manage delivery of courses as needed.
• Review new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards and recommend modification before introduction • Support, conduct and review incident investigations for all HSE related incidents and injuries and ensure corrective actions are identified and taken to prevent re-occurrence.
• Evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions.
Compliance • Ensures that safety programs are in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations • Develop and maintain statistical analysis and performance measurement matrices for all safety functions including: On-the-job Injuries, OSHA Compliance Data, Risk Management, DOT Compliance, and Hazard reporting.
• Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting EHS functions and ensure policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance.
Safety Support • Effectively manage, train and coach, Site Management and Safety Technicians, or other safety resources needed to support projects.
• Review safety component of new bid and contract documents to understand site-specific hazards and unique environmental health and safety requirements to properly bid and execute a project.
Assist as needed with safety pre-qualification data, including sub-contractor support.
• Participate in Corporate Safety Team efforts, consisting of sharing best practices and development/implementation of new programs, and continuous improvement initiatives to drive a safety culture in the organization.
• Provide office ergonomics and safety support for operations.
• Assist with development of division/project safety committees to facilitate employee engagement.
• Assist with internal safety newsletter, bulletins, and other awareness efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned Job Requirements: Education and/or Experience • Associate's degree or higher in a Safety related field or equivalent relevant degree • 4-6 years' experience in Chemical, Oil, Gas / Petro Chemical environment or Industrial Logistics Safety field, managing direct reports, required • OSHA 30 Hour Training preferred • OSHA 500/501 preferred • ASP, CSP, COSS, CHST, or equivalent safety professional certification preferred Key Skills Requirements • Experience in a management/supervisory role with direct reports required • Valid driver's license required • Ability to develop and deliver effective presentations • Leadership skills with a focus on coaching, influencing, and leading change • Proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook • Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities appropriately • Self-motivated, reliable, able to work independently and as part of a team • Ability to quickly establish and build relationships and trust throughout the organization • Ability to be diplomatic when discussing deficiencies or deviations from regulations and/or Company policies and procedures with all levels of the Organization • Excellent verbal and written communication skills Physical Requirements • Climb permanent and temporary stairs • Passenger use of construction personnel hoists • Ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus • Use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls • Able to sit, talk and hear, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) up to and including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, protective footwear, vest and respiratory protection Work Environment • Potential exposure to moving mechanical parts; high places; dust, mist, fumes or airborne particles; external weather conditions.
• Noise level is moderate to very loud • Travel may be required as needed.
