This position represents the legal interests of American National Insurance Company in dealings with third parties such as agents, suppliers, regulators, and policyholders.
Senior Counsel also provides legal support and guidance to managers and employees in connection with their duties for American National Insurance Company.
Additionally, this role will be responsible for developing, establishing and maintaining a process to identify, understand and manage litigation against the Company and respond to subpoenas.
What You'll Do:
Identify and construe legal requirements applicable to American National and participate in the formulation and implementation of plans/procedures to represent the Company.
Consult with all segments of American National on the legal implications of a wide range of business issues and participate in the determination of appropriate courses of action.
Develop and maintain a current knowledge of the legal principles, practices and trends relevant to American National's businesses.
Research legal issues and develop opinions and advice for the companies.
Identify, retain and work with outside counsel to represent the Company in litigation matters.
Manage legal actions, other than routine insurance claims.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.
D.
)
Four to six years of experience.
Additional Qualifications:
Admission to the Bar of any state in the United States.
Experience in the insurance industry.
Understanding of and experience with contested litigation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five years' experience in the insurance industry.
